This is not breaking news. Cardinals fans knew this years ago.Tulaneball wrote:

Here's one Cards' fan that never sang the praises of J.D. I still can't believe he threw away a year of his life (1997).
After the Phillies drafted him and (I believe) offered him more $ than any college player had ever been offered at that time - it still wasn't enough for J.D. and agent Scott Boras. So instead he spent a year in St. Paul, playing indy-league ball! I never blamed Phillies' fans for booing him (although throwing batteries at him was going a little too far).
When he first came to St. Louis and hit .400 in 20 games or so, they compared him to The Natural, and wondered if he'd have a Musial-type career here. But I knew even then that if someone ever offered him $ 10 more to play elsewhere, he'd be gone.
(Whew! Always enjoy ranting about my 2nd least favorite big leaguer - next to Bonds.)
Fortunately Jocketty was smart enough to get something from Atlanta for Drew before he became a free agent. And we're still reaping benefits from that deal Wainwright (very bright future), Marquis (not pitching great, but tied for MLB lead in W's), and A. Miles (from Col for R. King).
