The kid is not all hype....he is simply taking some lumps at the major league level. Plus the Phillies are playing terribly right now, and the whole team is sucking. I have seen all but one game, and he has certaintly shown plenty of flashes of brilliance to prove his stellar minor league stats were no joke. Yesterday he hit 96 mph on his fastball, and he has one of the best changeups in the game. Many of the best pitchers in baseball had some rough times their first year in the bigs, so don't get down on Hamels so quickly.
Plus he has been snakebitten by some HIDEOUS phillies defense and some weak hits that barely found their way in.
IMO he just needs to be a bit more aggressive and pitch inside more...he seems to be nibbling too much instead of going after hitters. In his prevoius start when he got aggressive he struck out 4 or 5 guys in a row.
Keep the faith, the kid has too much talent and poise to give up on.
