I'm thinking of dropping Wickman for Saito. Smart move?

Hrm...that's a risky move. The problem is that Wickman, while mediocre, is the closer and will almost certainly remain the closer for the entire year. Saito has Gagne possibly returning, Baez in the wings if he struggles and Broxton with the 'closer of the future' tag.

On the upside Saito is a better pitcher than Wickman. He just doesn't have a lock on the job.

Is there any chance he closes next year for the Dodgers? I really have no use for him now because I'm well out of the Top 3 and those are the money slots. And, at this point, I'm better off losing because our keeper draft order is based on who has the worst records.

12 team league, Janssen is the obvious worst pitcher(gonna try to drop him for Billingsly)but I think 4 closers would be too much.

Bob Wickman
Felix Hernandez
Johan Santana
Justin Verlander
Tom Gordon
Francisco Liriano
Brad Lidge
Josh Johnson
Casey Janssen

I have FIVE closers... Papelbon, Saito, Otsuka, Street, Coffey
And even at that I'm only 2nd in saves behind by around 8 or so. Yes the other dude has 3 or 4 closers but I believe they're Izzy, Jenks, and Gordon. Something like that.

Yikes, do people out of contention for the top 3 spots routinely tank it in your league? (ie. stop starting players altogether..)

I'm not tanking it (some are, obviously-- it's 16 teams afterall). I got bad pitching from Pettitte and Livan Hernandez and Aramis Ramirez was awful for me. I would like to finish in the Top 6, if I can just for pride, but I don't want to drop someone on my current team for a guy who won't help me next year, because I think I could have a decent team next year.

Mark Buehrle (SP-CWS)
Wandy Rodriguez (RP-HOU)
Jeremy Bonderman (SP-DET)
Derek Lowe (SP-LAD)
Akinori Otsuka (RP-TEX)
Tom Gordon (RP-PHI)
David Bush (SP-MIL)
John Rheinecker (SP-TEX)
Shawn Hill (SP-WAS)
Michael Barrett (C-CHC)
Ryan Howard (1B-PHI)
Chone Figgins (2B/3B/OF-LAA)
Aramis Ramirez (3B-CHC)
Jimmy Rollins (SS-PHI)
Chris Shelton (1B-DET)
Luis Castillo (2B-MIN)
Adam Dunn (1B/OF-CIN)
Curtis Granderson (OF-DET)
David DeJesus (OF-KC)
Eric Byrnes (OF-ARI)
Mark DeRosa (2B/SS/OF-TEX)
Willy Aybar (3B-LAD)
Jason Botts (OF-TEX)
Clay Hensley (SP-SD)
Ronny Paulino (C-PIT)
Ryan Spilborghs (OF-COL)
Enrique Gonzalez (SP-ARI)
Marcus Thames (OF-DET)
Jose Lopez (2B-SEA)
Andy Pettitte (SP-HOU)

inactive...
Howie Kendrick (2B-LAA)
Dustin Pedroia (2B-BOS)
Erick Aybar (SS-LAA)
Elizardo Ramirez (SP-CIN)
Jason Vargas (SP-FLA)
Wilson Betemit (3B/SS-ATL)
Shane Victorino (OF-PHI)
Kevin Slowey (SP-MIN)
Kevin Kouzmanoff (3B-CLE)
Corey Hart (OF-MIL)

Edwin Encarnacion on DL

So, I'm only interested in if Saito will be helpful to me next year. He's old, but probably not too old, but it's a concern. I also don't expect Gagne back as closer for the Dodgers next year. Broxton could be the guy next year, but I don't know.

don't know if this is saying much, but I gave up on the Diamondback's closer situation and dropped Julio and Valverde for Saito
