Is he the closer in LA? Does he have any value when/if Gagne gets healthy?

He is absolutely the closer in LA right now.

As for value if Gagne comes back (which, personally, I don't think is going to happen this year)..he is putting up pretty filthy ratios and more than a strike-out per inning. Definitely some value there.

he's the man right now and even if gagne comes back, i don't think gagne will pitch as much as he has in the past. its a risk worth taking knowing gagne's health issues.

saito is just sick right now, he's striking out lots of batters but 1st year japanese pitchers seem to do well around the league first time around. his stats in japan were not that good tho so im thinking eventually the league will figure him out.

his japan stats:

If you notice, the 2 years he was a closer in Japan his numbers were very impressive. He got killed as a starter. This is typical with pitchers like him who only have 2 good pitches. After watching him pitch a few times, I beleive in him. There's a good chance that those of us who have him could have at least a 2nd tier closer for the rest of the year

I was about to point that out. For a SP, his numbers look like a #4 starter...his 2 years as a reliever were good.

I'm in a very deep keeper league and he's available. I'm out of it this year, and I don't expect Gagne to close for the Dodgers next year (picking up his option). My problem is that he'll be 37 next year. Is anyone else concerned about his age? Rivera and Gordon, for example, are both older and are doing well, so maybe I'm overreacting. Thoughts?

If Gagne gets healthy I see him closing next year. But for the time being, pick up Saito if you can.

It looks like LAD will get more save chances so I'm gonna have to go with Saito. Coffey's good too but recently Cinci has either lost or he hasn't had many chances.

I'd say Saito. I like the LAD rotation better than Cincinnati's. Sure, Cinci has two guys that have done very well (Arroyo/Harang) but after that it gets ugly. LA has Penny, Lowe, Sele (who like Arroyo is outperforming expectations), Billingsley and Tomko. Sure, Tomko has struggled lately but in my mind he's their #5 at the moment. Eric Milton is the Reds #3 or #4. Case closed. ;)
