The San Francisco Giants placed second baseman Ray Durham on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a strained right hamstring.
Signed as a free agent last winter, Durham suffered the injury August 1 against Cincinnati. He started Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh but left in the third inning after an unsuccessful steal attempt.
In 87 games, Durham is hitting .283 with six home runs and 22 RBI. The 31-year-old owns a .278 career average with 60 homers, 118 RBI and 232 stolen bases in 1,287 contests.
Taking Durham's spot on the roster is Marvin Benard, who was activated from the 15-day DL.
Benard returns from his second stint on the DL and is hitting just .185 with four RBI in 32 games. He has a .272 lifetime average with 54 homers and 260 RBI in 877 contests, all with San Francisco.
