Padres sign 2B Loretta to two-year extension

Postby pkarr5000 » Fri Aug 08, 2003 11:45 pm

Padres second baseman Mark Loretta signed a two-year contract extension with an additional option year Friday.

He joined San Diego as a free agent last offseason.

Loretta, 31, entered Friday night's game against Cincinnati leading San Diego with a .321 batting average and 51 runs.

Not too suprising. Loretta has played well this year.

I don't like it. I would have much prefered Luis Castillo there. Kevin was going to go after him in the offseason with all that free agent money. But apparently Luis wants to play for the STL .. I still don't think this is a good signing. This means Loretta just hit his peak at what? ... 32? I am not buying it. He is a one year wonder, mark my words.

lol, but didn't he just come out the other day and say he would love to play with Renteria? I understand he hasn't met K Greene yet but I am sure he will like playing with him much more than with Alex Sanchez.. :-)
