Bounce back? From what? Aside from wins (which aren't completely within his control) what is there to complain about with him? To me his numbers are fine as is, but let's just take one start out (his first of the year) and see what we get:

90 1/3 IP, 77 K's, 3.49 ERA, 1.11 WHIP.

I'll ask again...what is there to complain about?

I like the spot he fills in on my team. Quality Ks and a mid-low ERA.

Smoltz has been as good as I expected. His K rate is actually better than I expected. If you were counting on him to be your #1 or 2, that's unrealistic. But he's a great #3, and has the potential to give you #1 stats occasionally

exactly, and he's still as solid number 2.

i actually win pitching every week w/ him as my number one. i've traded away my aces for offense, and i've kept all my 2nd tier guys like smoltz, lackey, vazquez, bonderman, haren, zito, bought low on pettitte, and played the ww for guys like liriano, jered weaver, and soler. just a bit of advice that you dont have to build aruond your aces. smoltz is a solid pitcher and will help you win a lot of categories.
