i noticed last week, when i was finally able to watch Zito, that his breaking ball has been flat, his bread and butter pitch. This has lead to him throwing a lot of fastballs. His fastball is nowhere near as effective minus the curve, so he's been getting burnt. That's my interpretation.

To be fair, he allowed no earned runs and finished with a WHIP of 0.88 on the day. His walks are way up and strikeout rate way down, but losing to the Tigers today seems like more bad luck than anything else.

hey, zito has a great day and I'd love to have his fantasy numbers for today. I dunno, maybe the A's players hate zito and want him to lose...

Yeah, his run support has pretty much sucked.

his numbers are pretty darn good, but the major concern is the observations from several cafe members who have watched him pitch commenting about his reliance on his fastball since his world-class curveball is running flat and he doesn't seem confident throwing it.
