Grimsley suspended 50 games

I realize that everyone probably knows this allready but I thought I would try to get some opinions about his suspension considering he never failed a drug test. I have heard alot of people talk about MLB not being able to suspend a player who didnt fail a drug test so what are all the opinions on this?

Considering that he didn't fail a test, I think it's a joke. Considering the fact that he's now retired, I think it's pointless.

I did like Todd Jones' quote though: "It's kind of like giving a speeding ticket to a guy that got killed in a car wreck."

I dont want this to turn into another 20 page argument over Bonds I was just curious to get some different thoughts on the suspension. I for one am glad that Bud is standing up and doing something about this without a failed test but I didnt know what other's opinions would be.

I don't have any sort of back up for this, but I heard someone on ESPN say that there is "loose language" in the CBA that allows MLB to suspend players involved in the sale of banned substances. The evidence of Grimsley's purchase of the kits involves him the sale.

I find the speed at which the suspension went through interesting though because they couldn't have done much of an investigation.

Yeah that's what I read as well, and that Selig would likely try to use that clause to suspend him.

If a "retired" player is getting suspended for 50 games...what will the active players get?

Who cares? I guess it sets a precedent (sp?)
