I had 0 closers kept this year and now I have Papelbon and Tom Gordon who are the top 2 in my points league.
So Yea none
That is the exception, not the rule. While you may have not kept any and lucked out, some others who didn't keep any in your league may have ended up with Weathers, FCordero, Valverda, Reitsma, Foulke, or Borowski. Next year, if you decide to not keep either of your closers, you may be in the same boat you are in now, or struggling to stay competitive.

You might not have said anything about luck but implying that he's only been good for a third of the season is basically attributing it to luck

Actually hes right. Its still a very small sample. Would Chris Shelton be considered a top 5 1B back when he was hitting like crazy.
#1 I can admit Papelbon is damn good but to say that hell be a top 5 closer in 5 years is laughable
#2 I think hell move into the rotation by next season if not this one

The Mets will win the World Series this year.

No, it just means that I'm going to give him more than a third of the season, actually more than just a year to put him in my top 5.

Pap was great last year, too. And he shut down the World Series Champs in the ALDS.

It's not just what he's done this year though. He was a highly touted prospect coming in and has lived up to those high expectations when he moved to the closer role. I think the nice thing is that even if you keep him at closer and he ends up starting he's such a skilled young pitcher that his value isn't going to be badly damaged by the move...it might even get better.
It really depends on how many players you can/must keep. My keeper league only has 3 keeper slots, and there's no way I'd keep a closer, not even a top one. It's just too much of a gamble, and I'd much rather keep a reliable bat or top talent SP.
