He really knows pitching.... IMO, he and Steve Stone are the best broadcasters when it comes to the pitching aspect of the game. I'm fairly knowledgable about the game (playing and/or watching my whole life), but they consistantly tell me things I didn't think of or notice. Stone in particular can immediately detect a mechanics problem in a pitcher.

The worst broadcaster I know is Rex Hudler for the Angels.... It's like he's jacked up on coffee and speed and thinks every Angels player is just a fantastic player... That and he and the other guy are constantly talking about stuff other than the game at hand. I don't mind the off-topic stuff if it's hilarious or informative in some way, but Hudler just tells you unenlightening stuff about his life that's in one ear and out the other.

I like Hudler and think he knows his stuff and brings it to the table. People are bothered by his energy, which I understand, but to say he doesn't know his stuff or gives the audience nothing is ridiculous.

The worst announcers by far are the White Sox. Most arrogant announcers/homers ever.

Hershiser knows his stuff. His skills are wasted in the booth, he should be a coach somewhere. I assume he doesn't want to do that, because he would likely have no trouble finding a coaching job.

He was the Rangers pitching coach for the past two seasons.

What transpired to move him to the booth? Just fired?

Not sure. I'm certain he wasn't fired, perhaps just wanted to get into broadcasting.

I like Orel. I'd have to say both he and Maddux look the least like Major League pitchers though. Look more like college professors. :-B
