So obviously, by no response (and 29 views) I'm guessing that people don't think this trade was as ludicrous as I do... why trade a guy who your own team can't hit to a contender for a wild fire-baller? I just don't get it

Agreed. That is a high price to pay for a middle reliever.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

he only makes 2.65M this year...whoever claims him only has to pay his salary for two months*...(~ $400,000)...why not pick him up and help your pen and prevent your main competiton from having him....
*He is a FA after the season...so they wouldn't have a long term contract...

Nelson walks guys quite a bit. His career ratio is 4.5 walks per 9 innings. Nellie was tough on righties, but you guys act like he was Gagne like? I will be very surprised if Benitez doesnt help Seattle.

Nelson was traded because management...and some players...were pretty unhappy about his rant last week. It's not as though he's been awesome this year, and Benitez is hardly the worst guy around. Trade seems a wash to me, and considering that neither guy was exactly a clubhouse hit these days (there are some vet Yanks who still hold a grudge vs. Benitez) this deal made sense both ways.
