Then Jorge Julio, who has replaced Jose Valverde as Arizona's closer, gave up a leadoff single to Randy Winn in the ninth. But Julio struck out Vizquel and got Durham to fly out to center field, bringing Bonds to the plate.
I think that's all the answer I need. I'm dumping him and likely going for Josh Johnson.
Keep in mind though that those game recaps aren't always written by people privy to the situation of the team. It could mean as little as the person writing it saw Julio close and assumed he was now the permanent closer. I'd hold off on dropping Valverde until DBacks management actually says something.
you sir are 100 % correct. also probably just poor wording as well on the writer's part.

Recommendation: Meanwhile, Jose Valverde was not called upon even to set up Julio. That job instead went to Luis Vizcaino.
Whenever I hear that phrase "sloppy" used with a closer, it usually means a meltdown is coming along. This is good news for Valverde owners... the Recommendation is bad news for them. Since I don't own Vizcaino or Lyon, it would be a disaster if Julio lost his job, and one of them took over.
Stick that preverbial fork in Valverde. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets sent down to AAA to try to retune. His 4 runs allowed tonight was the final straw.
Now, the question is-who stands behind Julio should he falter, Lyon, Aquino or Vizciano?
i hate to do it, but im almost to the point where i HAVE to drop valverde....before someone gets julio, who is the last prospective closer left on the wire.
