Haven't heard anything for sure, but Valverde gave up 2 runs in an inning today, while Julio threw a perfect inning with 2 K's.

no not yet. valverde has now pitched in 2 consecutive games where it was nowhere near a save situation. julio still has the job and hasnt done ANYTHING to even warrant a switch yet.

I feel for you there, rentz. I have Julio and Valverde, and would like to be able to drop one of them for a set up guy for holds...

Yeah, if Juan Cruz comes back before this thing can be settled, I'll be in trouble.

I have both of them right now. :-o

Just read this on the game recap:

Then Jorge Julio, who has replaced Jose Valverde as Arizona's closer, gave up a leadoff single to Randy Winn in the ninth. But Julio struck out Vizquel and got Durham to fly out to center field, bringing Bonds to the plate.

I think that's all the answer I need. I'm dumping him and likely going for Josh Johnson.

Keep in mind though that those game recaps aren't always written by people privy to the situation of the team. It could mean as little as the person writing it saw Julio close and assumed he was now the permanent closer. I'd hold off on dropping Valverde until DBacks management actually says something.
