What's the deal with Micheal Barrett? I thought he got a ten game suspension. I have him as a backup on my team and he has been tearing it up lately. But it is madenning because I don't want to start him fearing the susupension will kick in and I will be down my utility guy. But he is playing so well now but his trade value is garbage with a ten game suspension lurching. Anyone know when he will serve this suspension. Would you drop him? I have Mauer as my starter and would like to get Coco Crisp off my DL spot.

this sportsline update seems to indicate it could be this monday or around the all-star break. it would be nice to be able to find out at least a day ahead of time if they're gonna even hear it.
i also plan to keep checking the cubs' mlb site/fan forum.
Michael Barrett's appeal of his 10-game suspension for punching A.J. Pierzynski is still pending. In order for his suspension to begin, one of two things have to happen: 1. He can drop the appeal and serve the 10 games immediately ... or 2. League officials hear his appeal and decide on a reduced penalty and he begins serving that. Neither of these eventualities is imminent. Appeals are heard when teams are in New York for series, generally. The Cubs are not there until after the All-Star break, so something could happen on the Cubs' next off day June 12.
(Updated 06/05/2006).
FANTASY ANALYSIS
This makes Barrett a viable start in Fantasy Week 10 (June 5-11), but there is some measure of risk. The appeal could be dropped by the player at his wishing or heard at any time league officials are in the city his team is playing. We don't have any information that will happen this week. This suspension figures to hang over him for awhile, so take the risk and start him. You don't want to sit the hot hitting catcher now, only to have him continue to play well, and then have to sit him while on suspension, too.

Neither do I, hopefully the league will reduce his punishment during the appeal.

Is that the same as saying his punishment should be reduced because what he did wasn't so bad?

How the hell do you appeal punching a guy in the face? Barrett is such a joke.
Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!

Yeah, what the hell is he appealing?
He blasted the guy right in the face...point blank range. I cant see his side of the story being a strong one

I remember reading somewhere (CBS?) that appeals are typically heard when a player has a series in New York. It sounds like a policy that hasn't been updated for 40 years, but that's what I read... so whenever the Cubs meet the Mets in NY next, you might expect his suspension to begin shortly after...
