Why's he been sitting the last few days?

There was a report last week that his wife was due to give birth soon and he might need to leave the team at any time to be with her. I haven't heard that that has actually taken place now, but it could be why he's been sitting.

that's why he's sitting.

and apparently, word is that when piazza comes back, it's no threat to his playing time at first. the light of the phillips bulb keeps glowing.

Plus, Tony Clark has also been red hot at first base lately, so there's no rush for Phillips to come back prematurely.

Do you think Phillips will keep things up the way he has or is this guy a fluke? I can't imagine when he comes back he'd sit for Tony Clark (who apparently misses Detroit) especially since Phillips has a hot bat himself, but one has to wonder if he'll fade or not. I bet anyone's baseball skills would suffer if they didn't get any sleep. ;-)

I think he'll keep it up, i love his batting stance and a few scouts in houston are crazy for him, when captain brad moves on, jimy would love to have phillips on the squad, sure beats greg zaun
