I was just looking at Rich Hardens player bio and found out that he was drafted in the 17th ROUND !!!!!!!! What an amazing draft pick, not sure what he was overall tho.

I might be wrong but in baseball there are like 8 million rounds it seems like and alot of players become good out of nowhere.
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

Harden is one of many players to turn into a star after being drafted fairly late..

Piazza is the ultimate example... He was the last round pick and was basically taken solely because he was distantly related to LaSorda....
Pujols went aroung the 13th or so round.

Kim Johnsson was drafted last overall in the 1994 NHL entry draft.
Let's go O's. Let's go Mets.

Not sure if this is the case with Harden, but a lot of top rated players state that they are not interested in leaving school eary/going to college and then are coerced into signing big bonuses, despite being late round draft picks.

yah. the mlb draft has just marginally more excitement than licking a postage stamp. there's a reason they don't televise it and only do it over a conference call with the owners. it does go for a million rounds and many picks just go to college and then get redrafted the next year.
it's nothing like the nba or nfl drafts where everyone who gets drafted wants to play and everyone drafted in the first few rounds (well, in the nba, the first round) is expected to contribute and the people after that are a roll of the dice.

its not all that unusual. the mlb draft is more of a crapshoot than any other league. there are thousands of players in high school and college being scouted, varying levels of competition, signability issues, injury concerns, aluminum bats, not many televised games, etc.
