From RotoWire:
Armando Benitez (P) SEA 8/6/2003
Benitez was traded Wednesday to the Mariners for Jeff Nelson, ESPNews reports. Benitez will set up Kaz Sasaki, who is due to return from the DL this week. The Mariners could use another lefty out of the pen, but this trade doesn't satisfy that. It's possible if Sasaki, who hasn't impressed in his rehab outings, falters, Benitez could close. But even in that scenario it seems unlikey since Shigetoshi Hasegawa has been flawless as a closer for Seattle while Sasaki has been out.
Jeff Nelson (P) NYY 8/6/2003
Nelson was traded Wednesday for Armando Benitez, ESPNews reports. Nelson, who is a free agent this offseason, has been spotty this year and the Mariners weren't likely to bring him back, especially after he blasted management for not making a trade at the July 31 deadline. Well, Nelson got a trade, probably not the one he expected, though.
