Their starting DH today was Jeff Liefer, sporting a .174 BA after going 1-4 with a double and run against Roy Halladay. Doesn't being a Designated *Hitter* imply that you can hit?

that team wins more games for their talent than anyone in the league; further, i'm without stats, but they seem to have really improved in the last 2 months

they've shut down some pretty good lineups and had some good wins

Liefer started the season, if you remember, 7/15 in his first 5 games, and hit a 9th-inning homer in the 5th game to give the Expos the win. I actually picked Liefer up at that time, because the Expos were headed to Puerto Rico after the next series against the Cubs. In that Cubs series, though, someone turned out the lights in Liefer's swing - he developed a huge hitch and started missing the pitch by a foot.

Pinella must be playing Liefer to see if the Devil Rays can do anything at all with Liefer's swing.
