Don't jump off the bridge yet:
Lefties dominate: Melvin filled up his lineup on Thursday entirely with left-handed batters to ensure better matchups against the Mets' right-hander Orlando Hernandez.
"[Sitting Eric] Byrnes two days in a row for him is tough to do," Melvin said. "But the numbers would suggest that you probably want to get a few more lefties in there, so across the board, [positions] one through eight, we've got left-handers in there [Thursday].
"We feel like he has a few weapons for righties, not that he doesn't for left-handers. This is a very savvy pitcher."
Lefties have hit Hernandez at a .372 pace, compared to .213 for righties.
Switch-hitters Tony Clark and Jeff DaVanon filled in for Conor Jackson and Byrnes, respectively.
