Cordero Pitching the 9th Again?

Postby stlcardsfan » Wed Jun 07, 2006 11:12 pm

Cordero pitched the 9th again tonight. Anybody know if he's regained the closer's role or was Otsuka pitching the bottom of the 8th because KC was ahead?

From RotoWorld:

It's not a switch, though Cordero is showing that he'd be very good if he does get his old job back. Otsuka entered tonight's game because he needed the work, and with the Rangers on the road, there wasn't going to be a ninth inning for him to pitch unless the Rangers came back. Cordero got the save on Tuesday because there was a four-run lead after eight innings.

Looks like Otsuka probably still has the job for now.

I agree Bowser. I would hate to lose Otsuka as a closer, but am in a unique postion that I have 4 closers, so having Otsuka as a set up man, although not ideal, is not all bad as he will give good innings and keep that WHIP and ERA low. Trying to see the positive if Cordero earns the job back. :-o

settle down y'all....otsuka pitched in the 8th to get some work in, and being down 2 didnt figure to get any 9th inning work. the rangers happened to score 4 in the top of the 9th, leaving cordero to get a save by default.

a two inning save coupled with a save because the closer already worked does not a closer change make.

from CBS Sportsline:

Francisco Cordero, RP TEX

News: Akinori Otsuka (2-1) threw a scoreless inning for the win and Francisco Cordero pitched the ninth for his fifth save on Wednesday at Kansas City.

Analysis: It was Cordero's second save in two nights. It's uncertain if Cordero has regained the closer role in Texas. If he did, he's a worthy starter in any league once again. Otsuka was pitching the bottom of the eighth with his team trailing. It would have been the last inning of the game; they only went to Cordero after the Rangers rallied in the ninth. Otsuka remains equally as valuable as Cordero until the situation becomes clearer.

If your nervous about Otsuka grab FC off the WW...with Texas' offense waking up they are a good come from behind risk and both should get a few wins regardless of who is closing...
