He's a legit 5 tool guy, but the Dodgers situation is pretty crowded and will get worse when Mueller and Kent return. The kid hasn't even played a full season above Single-A so I wouldn't get overly excited. He'll have to stay hot to stick. (Then again, it looks like the Dodgers are going to stick with Russell Martin who is pretty green so you never know.)

I think that isn't a very fair comparison at all. Gomes isn't a proven producer like Ortiz and of course Ortiz will have a better average come season's end. Kemp has been on fire and has a ton of potential. I think if one feels that Gomes got hot and now is going to just be an average player for the rest of the season with a very low average than maybe Kemp was a better choice. Assuming Kemp has a roster spot.
