I just found it interesting that today on 6/6/06 everyone's favorite upstart 2B Jose Lopez has, you guessed it, 66 hits.
Can you say deal with the devil?

Lopez was always viewed as a disappointing phenom. He's just realizing his potential. It actually would have been more a shock for him never to realize that potential than for him to remain a piece of crap.

disappointing: Not up to expectations or hopes.
I guess it depends on what your expectations for him were his first two years.

In 2004 he hit .295/.342/.505 in AAA as a 20 year old, just because he didn't hit great in the majors after just 200 AB's in AAA is nothing to worry about or be down about.
Then in 2005 he hit .319/.354/.505 in AAA while still be young at 21 for the league. If someone is going to get down on him for not hitting that well in his first 400 AB's in the majors while being 21/22, well they are just way to impatient and/or expecting way to much.

I fully agree, aren't all phenoms expected to do too much.

Jose Lopez? Here's a couple other guys that you would probably characterize as "disappointing phenoms." Miguel Tejada, Jose Vidro, Omar Vizqel, Craig Biggio, and Alex Rodrigez should be added to your list then. They all ended up pretty good after struggling in their first foray into the majors. They all were VERY young when they first came up (19-22). Bottom line, if you look at his minor league numbers, you could see that it was only a matter of time before he was able to handle MLB. Not too many 20 year olds are successful.
