Rocco Baldelli...Predictions

Postby BigZ38 » Tue Jun 06, 2006 2:05 am

Im in a league that uses LF, CF, RF...My current CF is Curtis Granderson, and I have been trying to make a move for a CF buts its been difficult.

Baldelli has played 11 AAA games and is hitting .405.

What do you guys think he can do when he returns to the Bigs?

Is a trade a possibility?

With his history, I don't know why anyone in their sane mind would expect Rocco to come back and be a productive fantasy contributor at this point.

I'm predicting he gets a stress fracture in his right foot next week.

In a league using just LF RF and CF, I take it your team needs just 3 OF? Unless your league has 20 teams in it, there should be ample alternatives to Baldelli. He likely won't do much later this Summer anyway due to:

1) lack of playing time as they rest him to avoid injury,
2) lack of playing time due to TBay having about 10 OF,
3) adjustments to MLB pitching...pitching he hasn't seen since 2004.

On the plus side, he did sign a nice new contract thru 2011 last November and he's just 24...so, he'll get play time in the long term, just not a ton of it in the next 60 days, is my guess.

He'll get hurt again. That's my prediction.

I think it would be quite an accomplishment if all his injuries this early in his career did not affect his development.

Hopefully he can stay healthy but playing at least 50% games on astroturf which won't help.

Yeah, I sure hope he hasnt already ruined his career. Those injuries can take a toll on a young player both physically and mentally.

Just out of curiousity, why do you list the injury ... and then the surgery for it seperate. It really doesn't make any sense unless your just tryig to have more fun with your list.

Anyways his first 2 years he averaged 144.5 games, to me that isn't anything to be worried about. I'm not sure what the average is for a major league but I am willing to bet it's not far off that. Obviously the ACL and Tommy John injuries really hurt, but it isn't something to be overly concerned with. Patterson I believe had the same injury and he is running all over the place, and elbow surgery on a non pitcher isn't something should effect him long term. Yes it sucks he had these injuries in a short time span and it could mean he is injury prone, I guess I'm just willing to give him a bit more time before I slap that label on him.

I think Rocco will do well this year. I foresee more pwoer this year. He may not steal much though since he is coming off injury. Worth at least a look. Maybe a bench spot, but he has the talent to become a fantasy starter. Playing time could be an issue, though TB is running some real scrubs out there. Tomas Perez and Joey Gaithright yikes. Rocco could be a real sleeper.
