Pennies: yay or nay?

saw this article in today's Detroit Free Press:does keeping the penny make sense?

they can get rid of the stupid things for all i care. what was alarming to me was that 79% of people will stop to pick up a penny. who did they poll, children and the elderly?

I say we keep them but switch them to a diffrent material. It cost like 1.25 cents to amek a penny gotta be a cheaper way

The rising costs of copper have now put the cost of making a penny more than a penny. Plus I think I'd rather have all silver in my pocket.

I don't use them. In fact I've thrown them away before. Although I think it would be weird to not have a 1 cent coin.

I could care less, it goes in my change nalgene with the rest of my spare change.

Keep them. I don't want to get ripped off on change. Just make them out of something else.

Take all your change and put it in a jar. Eventually, you'll have a whole lot of money you didn't think you had.

Maybe thats why they have to keep minting them. People throwing them out sure doesn't help.


The bigger problem is that you almost never use them, so most people end up just putting them in a jar, thereby taking them out of circulation.
