I don't think anybody else has posted this, but maybe this is why he was pitching so horrible at times this season... I feel a little sorry for him anyways, he will be out for awhile,

Aug. 4 Ryan Dempster underwent Tommy John surgery on Monday after it was determined that he had a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. Originally, the injury was not believed to be that serious but now Dempster will likely be out of action until late in the 2004 season.

This ligament requiring Tommy Johns surgery isn't why he's pitched so badly this season. Dr. Tim Kremchek from the Reds said on Cincy talk radio that that injury happened during his last game.

Maybe the bone chips had something to do with his pitching performance, but I think it was more a lack of concentration that killed him this season.

The Reds won't tender his contract next season as he'll be out for probably the whole season. Dempster will have to start over again in 2005 with a non-guaranteed minor league contract with the Brewers or something like that, making minimum salary. I actually feel bad for him as I always thought he had really good potential.

I feel bad too, I actually met him once and he is truly one of the real nice guys in the MLB.
