What's Up With Todd Helton??

Postby hayseed » Sat Jun 03, 2006 11:53 am

Has it gotten so bad that he's not even worth a roster spot in leagues? He's on my waiver wire, and I am going to probably place a claim on him given my weak 1B (Wilkerson and Huff)

Anybody have any information or speculation on his problems, and whether or not we can expect him to turn it around??

I would rather have Wilkerson.

As to Helton, duck test time...if it look like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

I am sure all the Bonds apologists and obfuscators here will be quick to defend Helton with the same pathetic and non-germane arguments.

The man was seriously ill a month ago. Is he still weakened and not fully recovered? Possibly or probably. His age and the seeming transformation of Coors into a regular park (humidor?) doesn't help. Tough to tell.

I remember former Rockies comentator (when he was on the radio fo rthe Cardinals) saying that Heltons former manager told Helton, when he was younger, that he was far too good to be on the juice. Thus implying that Helton was on the roids.

Hagin, took it back soon saying he meant suppliments, but you never know.

Decline in home runs, sure. But it doenst explain the 63 points below his career batting average.

That makes it a duck.... :-)

My boss an I were just talking about Helton. He said he read that Helton may have taken some illegal substances. I have no confirmation of this but, my boss is pretty reliable.

helton managed a decent second half last year after a similar slow start so there is some hope. plus holliday and hawpe are decent support. its also been said that helton's back hurts him more than he tells the press. i dont whether its roids, the back, the intestine, or all of them.

His power is down and his average has plummeted. Of course no one expects huge power numbers from him so that is ok. However if he is gettin old and starting to slump then it could be over for him. I don't know what to say really. Personally I would try to trade him if you got him while he still has enough value.
