eeeewwwww I can't wait any more ... Hurry Kevin..
Paul Meyer Post-Gazette Sports Writer, Monday, August 04, 2003 wrote:The Pirates and Padres continue to discuss a trade that would send OF Brian Giles and C Jason Kendall to San Diego for possibly four players, including RHP Kevin Jarvis, LHP Oliver Perez and OF Xavier Nady. The largest stumbling block appears to be how much of Kendall's remaining contract -- $42 million for four years after this season -- each team will play. "No deal is close," Padres assistant general manager Fred Uhlman Jr. told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "We have serious concerns about the financial ramifications and burdens this deal would place on us in terms of payroll flexibility beyond 2004, as well as the overall debt the club would be taking on. There is a long way to go in terms of finances with any deal involving the Pirates." But a source yesterday indicated the teams probably are a lot closer than Uhlman Jr. indicated. In fact, a rumor yesterday had the deal all but done, with the Pirates picking up as much as $20 million of the $42 million Kendall is owed. That means they would be out from under as much as $22 million. The deal could be announced by the end of the week when all the waiver processes are completed. According to a San Diego newspaper, the Pirates have agreed to pick up Jarvis, whose contract pays him $4.75 million in 2004. "He might be a bargain next year," Padres General Manager Kevin Towers told the paper. Pirates General Manager Dave Littlefield said yesterday: "At this time of year, there are a lot of rumors and speculation. My policy, if you will, is that it just doesn't make sense to confirm or deny trade rumors."
If the deal is done while the Pirates are on the road this week, Giles and Kendall played their final games as Pirates at PNC Park yesterday. "Maybe. Maybe not," Giles said. "Dave [Littlefield] controls the shots. I have no control over it, so why worry about it?" Kendall said he's aware of the trade rumor. "How can you not be? You hear it everywhere," Kendall said before the game. "But I have other things to worry about. I have to go play a big-league game."

Yeah if the Padres pull this off I think that they're going to have a really stacked team next year.

Mark Kotsay (Poor season this year, slowed down by injuries but .290 hitter the last three years wih some power)
Sean Burroughs (Second year player with great upside)
Brian Giles (No need for explanation)
Phil Nevin (Stud the last three years and looks good so far this year)
Ryan Klesko (Good player with good power)
Jason Kendall (Singles hitter but gets on base and has speed)
Mark Loretta (Having a good season with great AVG and OBP)
Khalil Greene (Very good prospect)

When you factor in that they will be moving from one of the worst hitters parks to a neutral stadium and that offense will be pretty stacked. Just hope their pitching isn't too weak or they could just be another St. Louis.

Yes, the Padres will look pretty sweet if they do pull this off, wait, did I say if, I think that this is pretty much done, and I think the only thing stopping it is minor implications in my opinion.

Do you think that if they got Giles and Kendall that they would also go after Tejada? Especially with Greene looking pretty decent in AAA wouldn't they be better spending any extra cash on a pitcher reather than another hitter when they're already pretty stacked there? The Tribine seems to think that they're going to to with Greene. Let us know if you've heard something else.
