That is my recollection as well. Schuerholz discusses the whole ARod deal in his recent book.

Can you imagine that the Rangers gave him 100M more than then next highest bid? Insanity.

i dont remember specifics, but i do remember that hicks beat out all offers by aprx 100mil.

one of the worst contracts ever....i dont care who the player is negotiating against yourself to get a guy on your team who doesnt want to be there is just dumb.

but hicks wanted to make a splash to get attention, and that he did

And then paying roughly 10 M a year to the Yankees to take him off his hands.

Yeah, apparently ARod went to sleep ready to take the Braves' offer, thinking he was about to become a Brave, and then the next day the Rangers offered that ridiculous deal.

Oh how sweet it would be to take ARod off the ungrateful Yankee fans' hands right now.

I believe they offered him close to $20M a year. IIRC it was a 5 year, $95M deal... I guess, yeah, it's $6M a year, but we're still talking close to $100M over 5 years to play baseball. Oh well, wish we would have traded him to Atlanta for Furcal and a lot more when we had the chance...

Link to a report on the story, I knew the Braves offered more than 150 to him, I was thinking it was 195 but turns out it was 180. The "no trade clause" is what stopped us from signing him. He wanted one and we wouldnt budge.

I'd loved to have had him but we wouldnt still have him. Braves have HORRIBLE owners and they would have made us trade him so they can waste more money into "AOHELLL" Cant wait till Blank or someone buys us!

Maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember that Colorado was also very interested, as well as Seattle and Atlanta.

How sick would that have been?
