Back at the time when Arod was a free agent, he signed a 10 year 252 million dollar contract. Does anyone remember what other teams besides texas had a shot at signing him? Were any other offers made to him besides Texas bizare one?

Mets werwe in the running. Supposeldy Steve Phillips walked away because A-Choke wanted a tent outside of Shea to market his junk. I think that is a bunch of nonsense, but that was the story at the time.

Stupid thing was that Hicks was bidding with himself to a great degree. Manny got 20 M a year on his deal at the time. There was no reason for Hicks to up that by 5 M more a year for A-Choke...no one was going to pay 21 let alone 25 M at the time.

I agree, it was kind of stupid. But A-rod did not want to go to Texas and would have preferred a bigger market team. He had to pay him more than NY would have paid, but yeah probably not 5M/year more.

I believe the Braves the most at $150 million over 10 years. Perhaps Seattle offered the same same yearly salary, but over less years.

I think the Red Sox were the top competition for him, no?
I am a New York Jets, New York Mets, and New York Knicks fan. I know misery like few other sports fans know ...
