Coffey, reds closer?

Moderator: Baseball Moderators

Is Coffey the closer for the Reds now???

Postby elltrain22 » Tue May 30, 2006 8:55 am

Weathers came in before Coffey the other night, and thats usually a tell tale sign. Even though Narron dissmisses those rumors, I still tend to think that its only inevitable before he takes over as the full time closer.

Coffey came in with 2 outs in the 8th with 2 on, got out of the jam by striking out Barret, and then retired the side in the 9th. Heitched extremely well and efficiently. If he doesn't take the closers job full time after this outing the entire Reds management should be shot

Hope so...I have been holding on to him for several weeks now. I see how well he is pitching...why can't the Reds? ;-D

Probably the same reason they don't see Ryan Freel is a bigtime catalyst to their offense :-P

Roto World says:

Reds manager Jerry Narron indicated after Wednesday's game that Todd Coffey has overtaken David Weathers as his team's closer.
With a 3.24 ERA in 25 innings, Weathers didn't really deserve the demotion. Still Todd Coffey has outpitched him all year long and is the better bet for the future. Mixed leaguers can now consider Weathers expendable. May. 31 - 11:39 pm et

Don't dump Valverde
Dump Weathers (he sucks)
Ray is worth a flier - nobody else has stepped up in the ATL bullpen

Quote from Yahoo

"That's about as big-time a save as you can get ... two guys on," manager Jerry Narron said. "We've been trying to get Coffey in a save situation over the last week or so and haven't been able to find a way. It was good to give him that opportunity, and he responded well." Narron later said that Coffey probably will get the next save opportunity.
