Once he officially has the surgery, you should drop him. There's no reason to keep him around when he's going to be gone for 3 months. Likewise, there's no telling whether or not he will be effective in September IF he comes back then.

What do people think of his keeper league value? I need a single year keeper to hold the seat warm for Alex Gordon this year...seems like Sheff could come VERY cheaply as he's useless for fantasy purposes this year AND he forces you to burn a DL/roster spot. Does everyone think he's going to be a top-50 player next year?

Hopefully he fully recovers, and can help the Yankees at the end of the year.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Gary Sheffield will have surgery on his left wrist on Tuesday. He's not expected back until September.
Sheffield was trying to rehab the torn ligament and dislocated tendon in his left wrist, but the injury figured to be too severe for him to play through. It now seems guaranteed that Melky Cabrera will be a regular, at least until the final month of the season. The Yankees also likely will trade for some outfield help at some point. Jun. 8 - 5:12 pm et
