The Cubs don't have a lot of good options other than prayer right now. If A-Ram and Lee catch fire in the 2nd half and everybody else plays to form, and Woods and/or Prior comes back and does well, they've got a slight chance to climb back into contention...
Clark would've been great, problem is the D'backs are playing good ball and a guy like Clark can be handy down the stretch and in the playoffs.
Nevin seems pretty much a low downside desperation move. It sure can't make them any worse.. For the Rangers, they've got some good young hitters and Nevin, who wasn't producing, was was a big salary guy and was taking away at bats from the kids...
For the Cubs, they're banking on the "Mike Lowell/change of scenery" effect to maybe put life into Nevin's bat... Remember, Nevin used to be a really good hitter and he's not THAT old.
It was something like this is or trade your best prospects for somebody better.
