I know one ESPN baseball writer who will be pleased as well. :)

Well, to be fair, it wasn't all Bairds fault the Royals are in the cellar. Most of the blame goes to Dan Glass and his daddy David. Baird did have his share of crappy days but most of it was because of Dan Glass vetoing trades and getting his hands into everything he could!

You know what, good for them. I'm happy for you Royals guys. It's high time you guys had something to smile about, notwithstanding that nice season a few back.

I know I wanted Moore in Boston when he was considered but we got Theo back so it all worked out. Good luck guys ;-D

Hopefully, this will be let Gordon and Butler come up soon.

I agree...let them finish getting seasoning (especially Butler) in the minor leagues, give them a September call-up and then let them start (at least Gordon...not sure if Butler's ready for anything other than DH) in 2007.

The Allard Baird Legacy:

The record
The team has tied or broken the franchise record for losses 4 times under Baird (working on #5)

Trades

Jermaine Dye for Neifi Perez
Johnny Damon for Angel Berroa
Carlos Beltran for Mike Wood

Free Agents

Juan Gonzalez
Benito Santiago
Albie Lopez
Brian Anderson
Jose Lima

The Player Development

Players drafted by Baird over his 6 drafts who have made a significant impact on the team boils down to basically David DeJesus. This includes a couple of can't miss guys (Greinke and Colt Griffin) who miraculously missed. The last two drafts are still way to recent to judge too harshly but again he was unable to find a top notch pitching prospect.

Money to spend or not, you can't misfire this many times and hold onto a job that is as performance related as a MLB GM is. Baird has always been a class guy and seems to be extremely knowledgable about the game. Nothing but the best for him in the future, I hope he gets another chance for a team with a stronger committment to backing his ideas.
