Soriano batting 8th tonight..

Postby Jack-In-A-Box » Fri Aug 01, 2003 10:38 pm

Yipes.. i know he's been struggling but 8th?? Man when i traded for him 2mths ago i thought this would be the move that put my team over the top. Still waiting for that to happen. And when i see he's being shuffled to the bottom of the order.. makes me think that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Two months ago? Ouch. He's provided steals and little else, and not even that many steals.

I'm in the same boat. Got him about 6 weeks ago. He's done squat since. :-/

yeah it does hurt a little. I'm still in 1st but i'm only ahead of 2 teams by 1 game. So its a close race. I gave up a lot to get Soriano is what hurt. At the time Pedro was just coming off the DL and my pitching was stacked anyway so i traded Pedro,Vidro for Soriano and someone else who i cut already. It hasnt hurt me getting Soriano but, it hasnt helped my offense like i thought it would.

He's a perfect cleanup hitter... Kinda like Garett Anderson... VERY FEW walks but will hit a ton of extra-base hits

Soriano has fewer extra base hits this season than Orlando Cabrera, Jeff Conine, Dmitri Young, and Bill Mueller, to name a few. Where are his doubles?

I agree though, he does make a better clean up hitter than lead off. What kind of leadoff has a .328 OBP? He needs to get more clutch, he's batting only .257 this season with runners in scoring position. I see 5th as the best batting spot for him.

5th or 6th is a good spot for soriano in the yanks lineup imo.

Well i personally wouldnt mind seeing him get a few days off to try and figure things out. Get his mind right. I'm doing fine with him struggling and not doing anything so a few days on the bench to get him some rest and time to gather himself might do him some real good. But for a while now he hasnt been what people like me who paid a high price to get and those that drafted him have expected. Few days off, may just help him turn it back around.

Lets take a look at Sorianos monthly splits

March-April - .371, 9 HR, 25 RBI, 6 SB, 10 bb, 21 k
May - .229, 7HR, 14 RBI, 8 SB, 9 bb, 29 k
June - .268, 5 HR, 9RBI, 10 SB, 5bb, 19 k
July - .240, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 3 SB, 2 bb, 21 k

His homers have been dropping, his average has been down, and hes walking less. Those k's hurt in my points league :-C
