I remember around the draft last year when some were curious who I thought Alex Gordon was comparable to. I mentioned a mix of Tex & Blalock, which is pretty good praise considering everything they have done. Another interesting comparison now might be David Wright, since both are pretty good on the base paths, hit for power, and show good plate discipline. Being though as Blalock and Wright both were drafted out of H.S. it's hard do have a real accurate comparison to minor league stats. So, with that in mind I thought I would look to see how Gordon has done in comparison to the best option ... Tex who was also a 3B and drafted highly out of College.
Teixeira: AA - 171 AB - 11 2B - 3 3B - 10 HR - 25 BB - 36 K - .316/.403/.591
Gordon: AA - 173 AB - 13 2B - 1 3B - 9 HR - 23 BB - 34 K - .318/.408/.561
Keep in mind that Gordon made the jump from College to AA, where as Tex had about 150 AB's in High A to help his transition. What you come up with is pretty amazingly similiar stats. They both hit the same, show same plate discipline, and roughly hit for the same power (though Tex had a couple more HR's). What seperates them a little bit is that Gordon now has 11 SB's on the year so far, which goes to show how Wright might come into the picture. Not many 3B can hit for power, avg., and on top of that run the bases that well.
Anyways I just happened to be looking at stats and noticed it. Figured I would give a bit of an update and look at it since I found their stats increasingly similiar.
