Quarter Season Awards

Postby pokeyjoe » Sat May 27, 2006 10:58 am

A little more than one quarter of the season has gone by, so I think it's time for a thread that includes all the awards for this part of the season. I know it's too early to judge, but this is for fun. Here's the major awards and some made-up ones (that make sense).

AL Most Valuable Player: Jeter, N.Y.
NL Most Valuable Player: Pujols, St. Louis

AL Most Outstanding Player: Thome, Chicago
NL Most Outstanding Player: Pujols, St. Louis

AL CY: Kazmir, Tampa Bay
NL CY: Webb. Arizona

AL ROY: Papelbon. Boston
NL ROY: Ramirez, Florida

AL Manager: Leyland, Detroit
NL Manager: Yost, Milwaukee

AL Most Improved: Crede, Chicago
NL Most Improved: Penny, L.A.

If anyone wants to add any other categories that's fine. Feel free to base my picks. The one I'm most unsure of is Crede, I just didn't know who else to put in there.

I agree with your list for the most part.

For AL most improved, gotta go with Alex Rios ;-D

I though Rios was a little young to be considered most improved. I thought this might just be a breakout year.

I don't think you can give it to Thome, he's fully proven in the past that he can play at this level. Last year was just a blip in the radar due to injury.

Isn't "breakout" and "improvement" pretty much the same thing? I don't see why most improved can't go to a younger player. I mean, this is Rios' third year in the leage, so its not like he's an unknown player or anything. His improved #'s this year compared to last are staggering.

I would say Thome for Most Valuable AL Player & Fielder for NL ROY. Aside from those, I agree with your picks for the most part.
