Honestly, dibs is pretty childish, unless your league has some sort of 'call it first' rule which is common knowledge.

If this is anything resembling a public league, the guy calling dibs has just callled attention to the player he wants, and has probably screwed his own chances.

Best just to put in a claim, and wait.
