Jered Weaver called up

Postby idano » Fri May 26, 2006 7:25 pm

Jered Weaver will join his older brother, Jeff, in the Los Angeles Angels' rotation.

The Angels selected the younger Weaver's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, and he will make his major-league debut Saturday night against the Baltimore Orioles.

Weaver, a 23-year-old right-hander, was 4-1 with 1.89 ERA in nine starts at Salt Lake. He allowed 44 hits while walking eight and striking out 66 in 57 innings. Kevin Gregg, who has been starting, will move to the bullpen.

The Angels picked Weaver 12th overall in the 2004 draft. He had a 37-9 record and a 2.43 ERA in three seasons at Long Beach State and was 7-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 15 starts for Rancho Cucamonga and Arkansas last year.

I'm sure it will be after he's had a big debut and everyone in the league has seen his stat line so they can beat me yet again to him with a higher waiver. I hate Yahoo with a passion because of this issue.

I pride myself on keeping up with not only MLB but minor league players and teams. I kept an eye on King Felix last year and got beat out on picking him up b/c by the time he was added to our WW he had made his first start and it was all over every website. The same to a lesser extent went for Cole Hamels and Boof Bonser.

Thank God I picked up Liriano at the end of the draft. Seriously though Yahoo needs to fix that. Everyone that would like to see it changed should e-mail them constantly, maybe they'll fix it eventually.

He'll out pitch his brother....by far. Usually it seems that younger siblings tend to do better than their older ones anyways.

Jeff Weaver may end up in the bullpen when Colon returns.

someone in one of my leagues "called dibs" on weaver by posting a message :-b

never seen that happen...and i told him that i don't think you can do that or at least no one will take heed

the league doesn't work on waiver positions or whatever, so whoever gets him first has him

Are you serious?

I'd stay up late hitting f5 and grab him just to piss this guy off.

Dibs? Come on now.
