Reitsma may be done as Braves closer

Postby Bravos90 » Fri May 26, 2006 5:39 pm

Today in the Braves game, Ken Ray closed the 9th. Reitsma has been garbage all year, and maybe Bobby Cox has finally gotten some sense in his head. I'm gonna pick up Ray today, he's been lights out all year.

Could be, but remember Cox said he might play matchups. Perez and Walker were lefties, and Reitsma has had problems against lefties lately. Reitsma has had 2 good outings lately (1 for a save). I think we might have a commitee, or Reitsma getting 2/3 of the saves.

"These go to 11".

You're right, it very well could just be matchups. But for the Braves' sake, I hope not.

from rotoworld:
Kenny Ray pitched a perfect ninth with a one-run lead to earn the save in the Braves' 6-5 win over the Cubs on Friday.
Chris Reitsma was coming off strong outings on Monday and Wednesday and should have been available today, but manager Bobby Cox opted for his hottest reliever. Despite some command issues, Ray is sporting a 1.57 ERA in 23 innings. There's probably no better time to use him than against a team full of hackers like the Cubs. It's doubtful that Ray will be the long-term answer in the closer's role for the Braves, but he'll probably get more chances as long as he keeps putting zeroes on the board. Pick him up.

Hold off on Reitsma's demise until the next save opportunity, hopefully tomorrow. The sooner the better.

I picked up Ray just in case. I have Reitsma. But I sure hate wasting two spots to find who the closer is. Frustrating!!!

May 27 Manager Bobby Cox used Ken Ray instead of Chris Reitsma (P) Atl to close out Friday's game, because he wanted to let Reitsma rest on consecutive days, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. So, despite three blown saves and a 6.10 ERA, it looks like Reitsma will remain the Braves closer for the time being.
