Prior Going on Rehab Assignment

Prior to go on rehab next week

CHICAGO (AP) -- Cubs pitcher Mark Prior, on the disabled list all season with a sore right shoulder, will probably go on a rehab assignment at Class A Peoria either Monday or Tuesday.

Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Prior would throw on the side at Wrigley Field on Saturday. Prior threw 64 pitches in a Rookie League game in Arizona on Wednesday.

Prior, who will be in his fifth season with the Cubs, has a 41-23 career record but has been slowed by injuries. He was 18-6 in 2003.

Kerry Wood, who also began the season on the disabled list recovering from shoulder surgery, had his scheduled Sunday start for the Cubs pushed to Monday, giving him an extra day of rest. Wood has made two starts since coming off the disabled list and threw five innings against the Marlins on Tuesday.

In that game, Wood left with the lead before the Cubs lost in the ninth inning. Wood allowed two hits, walked five and struck out three.

"Wood did some long toss yesterday, did quite a bit of throwing yesterday and felt good today and had a normal side today," Rothschild said Friday.

"The recovery this time in between was much quicker than last time."

Wood is now scheduled to start Monday against the Cincinnati Reds.

All I'm asking is for 7 IP this year. :-D :~( :-D
