Jorge Posada - just day to day? WHIR

Postby EvilMonkey » Thu May 25, 2006 7:59 pm

Per ESPN's fantasy player news, Posada was questionable for last night's game due to an inflamed tendon in the back of his left knee. He didn't play - has anyone heard/read anything that talks about how long he might be out?

Jorge Posada, C NYY (From Sportsline)

News: Yankees catcher Jorge Posada has a torn hamstring tendon in his left knee and will be sidelined at least a few days. Posada wasn't placed on the disabled list following his MRI exam that revealed the injury, but the club said Thursday that it planned to call up a catcher from the minor leagues on Friday. Posada is scheduled to be evaluated in the next few days.

Analysis: Posada was not in the starting lineup Wednesday for New York's 8-6 victory over Boston because his hamstring was sore from the night before. Kelly Stinnett, the only other catcher on the team, started and batted ninth against the Red Sox. Wil Nieves or Koyie Hill will likely be the catcher to get a call up, but neither will have much Fantasy value outside of AL-only formats. Keep Posada reserved in all formats until he can return.

a torn hamstring sounds serious to me, maybe not as much for a catcher but anything torn is bad imo. I think he's DL bound.

I totally agree with you on this one but I came across a report on the NY Daily News website that said he asked Brian Cashman not to place him on the DL - http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseb ... 5503c.html

Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. :-[

"torn" can mean a lot of things... none good, but judging by the fact that he's not on the DL yet, it must be considered a "minor" tear, because usually, when I hear torn hamstring, that coincides immediately with a 30 DL stint. Maybe with Matusi out, they're hoping he can DH and rehab at the same time? I don't know. Maybe they're thnking microscopic surgery, but even that would seem to imply at least a 14 day DL. I can't see him catching though with a torn hamstring, way too much crouching and getting up, that's tough enough on a catcher's legs who's not injured.
