Cubs should have traded Maddux when his value was highest

Major league GMs aren't fantasy owners. They don't ring each other up in a frenzy, hoping to "sell high" before the next start. Or at least I don't think they do.

Well, I like Andrus more than Aybar but both are upgrades over Cedeno (who should be a career IF backup). Andrus is blocked by Renteria and Aybar by Wood & Cabrera. Try and get soemthing for the aging vet. The Braves and Angels both need pitching as well.

Wood moved over to 3B last I heard, Angels doesn't really need another SP with Weaver and Saunders and Gregg usable pitchers.

You heard wrong then because he's been playing SS the entire year in the minors.

ok, he is but technically Aybar is blocking Wood. Wood is only in AA and is struggling(.244 batting average, though with very good OBP and Isolated Slg)

Why would they want Andrus? The kid hasn't even turned 18 yet. He's won't even sniff a call up for at least two years, and shouldn't have any real impact for three.

Plus when was the last time you saw a half of fame pitcher (or any one performing well) traded in April or May?

This ain't fantasy baseball. Teams don't sell high after a month or two. Other teams aren't that dumb, and major trades just don't happen till at least into June. Even then they are rare. Maddux will still be enticing to many teams come the deadline

Come on, no way is Aybar blocking Wood with Wood putting up those numbers last year. Just no way, Cabera is blocking Wood, Aybar is simply trade bait. Wood just needs to work on cutting down on Ks which lowers his avg. His other numbers are fine.

Im guessing Maddux would have a 10-5 clause giving him a no trade options.

Not to mention why anyone would trade the best pitcher of the '90s when he can still pitch as well as an average pitcher.

I saw multiple rumors involving Maddux as a trade candidate. Here is 1 such source. The can do without Maddux and still have the same season as they would without him. The Cubs would be DUMB to not get anything for him. It is also doubtful that they would the value he commanded when he was going good.

Cubs Shopping Maddux?
A good one from the rumor mill over at Gotham Baseball. Unfortunately their page is not working right now so here's a link to MetsBlog's take on Gotham's report. According to Gotham, Greg Maddux is being shopped. Interested parties: Mets, Yankees, Brewers, Phillies, Diamondbacks, Royals, and Cardinals.

The Cubs would essentially be reducing their rotation to "Carlos Zambrano and pray for a tornado," but Maddux is an impending free agent. My opinion from a couple of weeks ago: he's the same old Mad Dog, just with a well-timed hot streak. Still, dealing him now would be a very early white flag for a Cubs team with a $94MM payroll. Doesn't seem to compute. And the obligatory intradivision thing must be cited for the Brewers and Cards. I am surprised no West Coast teams have been mentioned.

Maddux might have a no trade clause, but not from a 10-5 deal, as he has only been with the Cubs now 3 years.
