Gagne: Makes it through the season or not?

the guys had tommy john surgery, got his velocity in the 100's during the steriod era, then saw it drop around 6 or 7 seven miles an hour after the steriod era. i have no faith in him.

I just can't imagine how he will come back and pitch at this level like he used to. He's been out for over a year.

As a Dodger fan, I hope so. It makes the Dodger bullpen one man tougher if Saito and Baez are setting up and Gagne closing out. That elbow has been quite volatile. I think Gagne can be effective even if his fastball has lost some velocity. He still has that killer changeup that baffles batters. If Grady Little is indeed cautious of not overworking him (i.e. not giving him back-to-back chances often), much like the Dodgers did in 2002-4, Gagne is a more than serviceable closer.

other pitchers have had tommy john and come back stronger. his elbow flared up because that nerve wasn't set right. it hurt him, so they removed it. now, it's numb. where are the worries?

i don't think effectiveness is beyond reasonable expectations.

I think he'll be OK. 100 MPH would be nice, but he'll be alright.
