I'm playing roto this year for the first time (I've always been an H2H guy, but now I'm a firm roto believer). I'm in first place by 20-something points in my 14 team league, but now I realize that there's a max innings pitched cap, which I've never had to deal with before. I'm on pace to finish like 55 innings over the limit. Am I in trouble, or is that a small enough number of innings that I just have to sit Felix Hernandez for a while and I'll be fine? Should I trade a starter for a position player or reliever? I'd appreciate somebody with roto experience letting me know.

Agreed... and +55 isn't THAT bad... if you want, you can always start easing up over the next two months to get it down to +20 to +30, then make a couple of deals before the trade deadline. Also, at this point, start being more selective with matchups to help whittle that number down a bit.

I was in your same position a few weeks ago. I ended up trading Maddux and just being more vigilant on who gets a start and who doesnt. thats the most important thing.
Just sit one SP every other week, and you should be fine. 55 isn't all that bad, but I prefer to keep it under 20. Try trimming starts here and there, but don't panic because you're definitely not in a huge amount of trouble. However, if you continue at this pace, you may have a problem in August.
I typically take it down to the wire so that I can employ a little trick - at least on yahoo, the max inning doesn't actually cut you off at the stated number of innings, but once you go past that. So, if for example, you have used 1245 of your 1250 innings then I pick up as many spot starters as I can for that night. Your era and whip are essentially set at that point but you can really rack up some wins and k's that might grab you a coveted point or two at the very end.
