There are certain players on my team that I won't trade away no matter what is thrown my way. I realize that this is simply bad business, but I can't help it. Peavy and Ortiz are my 2 fav real-life players and Fransisco Liriano for some reason makes me blush like a schoolgirl every time he pitches. As a general rule i never get attached to my players and will always make a trade if it helps my team. but for the life of me i refuse to trade big papi, peavy or liriano...
Anyone else have an irrational emotional attachment to certain players and turn down great deals just to keep them at all costs? (and vice versa, make dumb trades where you give up half your team just to get them???)
i consider myself the most logical/rational GM out there, but im afraid i have to answer yes to both of those questions...
Not really though there are a number that you would have to really make it a great offer to get me to give up.
My bias tends to be against certain players I simply do not believe in and against certain owners in some of my leagues that I will simply not do business with becuase of their questionable ethics or tactics in the past.
I don't have mancrushes that interfere with my team management (well maybe ARam and Pods a little bit), but I'll never have a Yankee on any of my teams.
I picked up Cano in the playoffs last season as an emergency 2B and I hated myself for it.
I do. Its annoying Teixeira I have one and this year hes a piece of junk. Ryan Howard and Grady Sizemore. I really wish that Teixeira didn't suck though.
I think to some degree everyone has their favorite player that they'd rather not part with...but, on another level how many of those players suck? I'll totally admit I've got my favorite medicore players one being Joe Kennedy who pitched for a minor league squad that's near my house, but logic tells me he's not worth having on my squad.
Emotional attatchments ruin otherwise good GMs. I learned the hard way.
In my cafe dynasty I had Sizemore, Cain, Dunn, and Vazquez at the start of the season. I swore I would never trade them, I learned better, and when I got a good deal I took it. Now, this is who I got for those players (is seperate deals): Abreu, Bay, Soriano, Furcal. I hated all those players at the start of the season, but looking at track record, analysis, and projections I'd be a moron not to take the deals.
Lesson is, don't listen to your heart, listen to numbers.
Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!
I'd be hard-pressed to trade Chavez, Giambi, or Vernon Wells; I've had Wells and Chavez for a handful of years straight now in my redraft money league. Guys I won't trade because I don't think I'll get good enough value for them are Smoltz, Patterson, Fuentes, and Miguel Cabrera.
