Minneapolis, MN -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed left fielder Shannon Stewart on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 20) with a partial thickness tear of the left plantar fascia. In 35 games this season, Stewart is batting .298 (42-141) with three doubles, one triple, two homers and 17 rbi. He is expected to return to the lineup on June 4, when he is eligible to come off the disabled list.
To replace Stewart on the 25-man roster, the Twins will recall outfielder Jason Kubel from Rochester (AAA, International League) in time for Tuesday night's game. In 30 games with the Red Wings this season, Kubel batted .283 (34-120) with seven doubles, two triples, four homers and 22 rbi.
