I'm starting to feel for the Yankees...a guy in Matsui goes on the DL and likely out for the year after playing about two billion consecutive games. Gary Sheffield hurt and whining about his contract extension. Johnny Damon banged up and playing with a BROKEN FOOT. Chacon hurt. Posada missing games off and on. Bullpen injuries. Heck, even the injury replacements are getting injured (Bubba Crosby)!!!
Say what you want about the Yankees being overrated, spending the money poorly, etc...you give ANY team this number of injuries and they're going to be in trouble. I think it's a tribute to Torre that he's held the team together through all of this to post a winning record so far.
