What's the difference between Topps and Topps Traded?

I may be wrong, but I remember there being a specific difference and reason why the Traded series is a lot more valuable. I remember that there's more than them "being just different brands." If anyone knows what I'm talking about then please share.

Not sure about now, but back in the early 90's, the Topps set was the regular card set that you could put together by buying packs of cards. The traded set, was a much smaller set, with a smaller production run (less of each card out there), was only availiable for purchase as a complete set. Those factors made the cards worth a touch more.

Not sure if it's still that way, but that's how it used to be.

Topps traded was also an update set, if you will. It often included players that were involved in midseason trades or rookies who were called up during the season when the primary set was released.

i think this is correct. the traded sets are good for rookies that get called up during the season or dont appear in the original series and instead of waiting for the following season they are released in a traded series. i think it sucks because there are so many rookies that are hard to get because they never came in the original series.
