poor horse broke his ankle today while running in the preakness. pulled up lame about 100 feet outta the gate.

this horse had very realistic odds of winning the triple crown. won the derby by the largest margin in over 50 years.

now it looks like theyre gonna have to put him down...

I hope he'll be ok with surgery. I really don't want them to have to put him down... So sad.

very sad indeed. my family does a lot with horses watching this was pretty tough for my mom. hopefully they'll be able to fix him up.

I know nothing about horses but why not after surgery just stick him in a stall and stud him out?? Can it get any better than that?

Yea why do they have to put horses down when they break leags. Can't they just cast them up and sell them to some rich brat?

I am no horse expert, but it is my understanding the broken legs never heal properly and they end up having blood flow problems.

Sad, sad event. I hear the break was above and below the ankle. If it happened to a human being that person would have to stay in bed for 6 weeks. A horse can't do that. It looks grim.
